Water Well Drilling – What To Take Into Account

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Engineering and geological surveys, should be undertaken in any capital construction. The importance of these works is that the results of engineering survey a decision about where ongoing construction works, the method of construction of the facility and the general feasibility of construction. Researches should be undertaken primarily in order to calculate the optimal type of foundation, and prevent the factors affecting the operation of the building. Money spent on engineering research will help you get rid of these potential problems, such as land subsidence, the appearance of cracks in walls and foundations of houses, etc. The preliminary finding is advisable to purchase before the site because superficially attractive plot may be from a geological point of view of failure or a high budget for construction.
Engineering surveys should be carried out regardless of the magnitude and significance of building object. For the construction of engineering structures are not so dangerous adverse geological conditions, as dangerous lack of knowledge of these geological conditions and the inability to evaluate them in terms of any of engineering activities. Prospecting should only trust an experienced and skilled performers. We should also mention that the force has only the conclusion of licensed organizations.
To the well can be operated in winter over the mouth of the well established metal or concrete pit, pipe from well to house paving below freezing depth, and the well properly insulated.
The water supply system at home consists of several parts: the pump itself directly, Automatic for the smooth management of the pump, pressure diaphragm tank, pump protection against overload and running dry, the water distribution system inside the house and plot, consisting of pipes, fittings, valves (including various cranes and mixers). The principle of water supply system is to automatically maintain the water pressure in the accumulator switching – switching off the submersible pump.
The water supply system at home must fully satisfy your needs, therefore water at home – a serious problem to solve it can only be experienced professionals. When designing the water system at home into account the volume of water consumption, debit wells and many other parameters. The water supply system at home should provide good water pressure at any time of year, to be reliably protected from the negative impact of the environment, to ensure proper treatment of water from harmful contaminants.
A separate discussion deserve the treatment systems. The fact that no major drilling company does not guarantee the quality of water. And yet, even water from deep wells usually requires purification because it contained carbonates can significantly shorten the life of plumbing and washing machines, dishwashers, water heaters. What to say about the surface waters, often with very specific color, taste and smell. Besides groundwater, among other things, it is very rich in iron, and “glandular” in defending or water heating, with yellowish-brown color, which leads to the appearance of rust stains on sinks and bathtubs … So, in order to always have a sufficient clean water without unwanted impurities, in most cases you need a steady water treatment plant.

Artesian wells and boreholes in the sand. Types of wells
Types of wells for water – artesian well and sand hole
Very often “underground” water can be contained in the two breeds:
in the sand (well in the sand);
in limestone (artesian wells or wells in the limestone).
In the bound state water can also be found in clay, loam, sandy loam, but get to it from these layers for industrial or domestic use in the required quantities is impossible.
Water well drilling
Artesian wells involve opening limestone horizons, so this kind of drilling is called limestone drilling. The first advantage of artesian wells is the guaranteed result of drilling.
The advantages of drilling artesian wells
a prior certain depth and the result of drilling of artesian wells in the definite region;
significantly greater water loss compared with a sand drilling;
durability of artesian wells;
the practical constancy of the water levels in the artesian well;
the ability to install high-efficiency imported downhole pump.
Disadvantages of artesian wells
significantly greater cost of drilling an artesian well in comparison with sand well;
sufficiently high salinity water from artesian wells in the suburbs, which requires the use of water purification system for its domestic use;
requirement in some cases, permits and collaborative documents for the drilling of wells.
Drilling of sandy wells
Drilling of wells or drilling of sand on the sand are usually bought when the demand for water is limited to 0,5 – 0,8 m³ / h (water needed for irrigation in the summer and cooking).
The depth of sand wells is usually from 10 to 35 meters, less than 40-45 meters.
The advantages of drilling a sand hole
relatively low cost of drilling wells (relative to the cost of drilling an artesian well);
simple and rapid manufacturing;
no need for registration and licensing of wells.
At the same time, the main disadvantage of drilling wells in the sand: the uncertainty is the location of the water-bearing sand at the point of drilling. Water can be found on two adjacent sites, and it can not be your ne.
Disadvantages of drilling wells in the sand
possibility of contamination of the aquifer various surface waters (faulty sewage systems, collectors, etc. …);
less durability, sand holes than an artesian well;
dependence of the performance of well-level fluctuations of groundwater:
inability to use a sand hole of modern productive borehole pumps.
Cottage – house seasonal or permanent residence of the family of 4 – 5 persons. Typically, in such a house at least 5 points of water pumping: a toilet, bath, kitchen, washing machine, crane for technical needs. In the peak period water consumption amounts to 1,5-3 cubic meters of water per hour.
For water supply farms, horticultural associations, condominium, agricultural or industrial enterprise requires high-output drilling artesian wells, capable of ensuring the flow of 3 cubic meters of water per hour during the peak period.

Information On Water Well Drilling

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Drilling of the water wells is often performed in an unexplored conditio0ns. In such cases it is desirable to perform exploratory drilling to determine the depth of groundwater and to determine water quality. Drilling of exploratory wells can calculate the amount of preliminary work to establish a production well.
Geological wells allow to perform hydro geological survey: make the lithologic column, to make exploration of water and soil – on the basis of this information to determine the presence of water and the depth of the aquifer. As a result of exploration drilling will also obtain information about the characteristics of soil layers as a layer of water over it and under it. Exploratory geological wells allow to define the structural features of future wells and to estimate the amount of work to be done. Thus, you have to build wells will know whether it makes sense to construct it at this site – and ultimately you did not spend the money.
Exploratory drilling
There are three types of wells, depending on the purpose: operating, exploratory and exploratory -exploitation. In some cases, for example, if water is not found, the aquifer is not very effective, there are objective obstacles to drilling – the work of exploratory drilling ends. If in the course of exploratory drilling it was found that the aquifer meets the required parameters, the hole is brought into operation.
Expenses for organization of exploratory drilling are paid off, as help to prevent unnecessary waste of money and time to drill wells, which are not found in the water.
Drilling of holes “in the sand” is used mainly in cases where no large volume of water. For example, if water is needed primarily for irrigation of green spaces, while being made to drill shallow wells in the country.
Wells are drilled to the nearest aquifer, which usually occurs in the sands (hence the name), usually at a depth of 10-30 meters. Equipment for wells of this type include the casing and a special mesh filter.
Of filters well, plus:
low cost and short time, well completion;
No need to harmonize in different instances for drilling wells.
However, there are some drawbacks, for example, because of the hydro geological features of shallow drilling in the area can be carried out not in all areas, to the extent that neighboring areas you can come to light water. Another minus is a low operating flow rate, ie, the volume of water. The life of such wells is on average 8 years; moreover, it is subject to silting and requires periodic pumping well.
Artesian well
This deep well drilling is performed before the aquifer “on limestone, lying at a depth of 30 to 200 meters and more.
Pluses:
In deep water drilling will be protected by clay layers of surface contamination that will ensure its high purity;
large volume and constancy of water level;
the possibility of using high-performance pumps;
well without interruption works for several decades.
Naturally, that extends the drilling of wells and the cost of works. Drilling of this type requires a license and agreement in different bodies.

Well Drilling – Advantages Of Dug Well

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Buying land for rent or for permanent residence, most people sooner or later face the issues of water supply. Consider several options for water supply in your area. Consider the major ones.
Build a well – this is the most simple and inexpensive solution to the problems of water supply.
Water lies in the so-called horizons. First Horizon – “ground”. He is the closest up to 15 meters. It is “ground” and melt-water (at a depth of 15 meters) fed by conventional wells. To begin to explore the aquifer in order to find out exactly what sections of society consists of the ground under their feet and where they can dip water masses. There is a method of magnetic resonance. With the help of electromagnetic waves emitted by the probes embedded in the soil, being monitored (in other words, analysis) of soil. However, this method is mainly used before drilling holes in the upper sandy horizon and absolute guarantees neither the one nor the other methods do not give.
Disadvantages of wells:
- Well water usually contains a large amount of impurities, sometimes making it absolutely unsuitable for drinking. The nature of impurities due to the composition of the surface layers through which water must seep. Often the negative impact the spring thaw, with accumulated over the winter with heavy metals, fertilizers and pesticides from fields or outdoor toilet abusive neighbor who never bothered to install a modern sewage treatment;
- Rate of flow (debit) in the well is very low, and therefore well come in useful only for a modest country house or dacha, where the outhouse, and all water treatment – along the track through the woods ….;
- In the dry season or during the winter flow of water in the well is significantly reduced, until its complete cessation.
The advantages of the well are:
- In some cases the water in the well characterized by relatively low hardness and iron content. This is due to the nature of the origin of well water (rain and melted snow water);
- Optional availability of access roads, such as this requires drilling equipment;
- And of course the basic “dignity” well – low cost.
In our view, reasonable and reliable way to provide themselves with water – to drill the well. Of course, this requires considerable cost and trouble, but then can be for many years to live peacefully, not tormenting cares, where to get water.
Wells for water supply are of two types.
This is a relatively small hole in the sand and deep (artesian wells or limestone).
It should be noted that the hole is desirable in the first phase of construction.
First, this is due to the fact that water for construction will be needed since the arrival of workers that will save you time and money.
Secondly, drilling engineering more difficult (and sometimes even impossible) to drive up to the desired location of drilling and production work on already built-up area.
Third, if your site already ennobled, appliances inflict damage and will require additional cost of rebuilding the damaged portion.

No doubt water has a significant place in our lives. In many cases people want to have an independent or alternative water supply source. Water – Main Source Of Life, What To Know About It Before Drilling A Well

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Water – a basic component of life. With its help all substances are transported in the body. Even 15% is dehydration is dangerous for human body. So often we make up choice for house – public system or private borehole. But in this article it is worth to look at water pollution.
Rates of industrial development, the emergence of new productions, such as pulp and paper, petrochemical are accompanied by increasing water use. The huge amount of water needed for cooling thermal power units, as well as nuclear power plants that consume it in 1,5-2 times more than heat. To better ensure human food products are increasingly used irrigation agriculture. Irrigated land area in the world is constantly growing.
One reason for the shortage of fresh water is decreasing of rivers, which leads to lower stocks and increased groundwater runoff. These processes affect the economic activity of man – felling of large forest areas, plowing floodplain, inning.
Another reason is the shortage of water pollution. Domestic and industrial waste water turns clear, rich in fish in the river muddy ditch filled with poisons and disease pathogens. Even a farm animal or plant sugar can destroy a small river. The most polluted river and rates in areas with high concentration of enterprise and storage of mineral fertilizers. Many industrial wastes from metallurgical and chemical plants pollute water bodies poisons, including heavy metals and cyanide compounds.
Is too hazardous household waste, containing the remains of organic matter – food and other wastes, which need to schedule plenty of oxygen. Like the domestic waste water is a significant pollutant waste food, which fall to drain. The concentration of organic matter in them is much higher than domestic. Are not most of wastewater is formed on slaughterhouses, beer, wine and sugar mills, confectioneries.
Due to excessive use and agricultural chemicals, rivers and lakes are increasingly contaminated by various chemicals and fertilizers that are washed from the fields.
Looming water pollution has reached the World Ocean during oil well drilling, oil-exploitation and transportation of oil extraction areas. Even small concentrations of oil in sea water can disrupt vital functions and cause death of marine animals and plants. Only near the shores of England from oil pollution annually kills about 250 thousand waterfowl.
The major danger for all water sources of contamination. As a result, nuclear weapons testing, industrial emissions, nuclear waste boats are accidents at nuclear power plants in the ponds get radionuclides. They accumulate in living organisms and adversely affect them.
Because of industrial pollution of fresh water, heat and sewage, oil, radioactive waste, fertilizers and chemicals that get into the fields along with streams of rain and melt water, forming water unsuitable for human life, plants and animals.
Household waste and agricultural waste systems often are sources of many infectious diseases, including dysentery, cholera, viral hepatitis, paratyphoid, etc.. About 500 million people on our planet each year suffer from diseases caused by contaminated water.

Well Drilling – Well Or Borehole

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Geological survey of area
For getting of data that characterize the composition and properties of soils, foundation officials, and underlying layers, there is done geological and hydro geological research. To do this on a site slated for construction in several points around the perimeter of the foundation there is stated system of drilling wells and pit from which soil samples are taken. Hole is round or rectangular well, who’s walls and sandy backfill strengthening plates and boards to protect against collapse. Drilling is conducted by the drilling tool that is immersed in the soil by blows or rotation.
During drilling or hole section there is written magazine of records which are geologic section of soil layers and judge of layers, their capacity and level of groundwater. According to these data and samples of undisturbed structure, there is combined in a pit, in special laboratories determine the physical and mechanical properties of soils and grounds hydro geological mode of site.
A very important point, this unit well or wells on the site, as well as septic device. Water is needed not only for drinking and cooking and a lot of construction work performed by water.
Often owners in their sites are digging a well. Well was regarded as the most popular type of water source. In fact, a subtlety in the issue unit wells is less than drilling. Choice must stop at the spot where equally well away from buildings, septic tanks, baths, etc., for digging wells it is better to seek team, which has worked in the area and proved a good side. Moreover, they know the depth aquifers.
Well so far unavailable in many of our fellow citizens. This has many explanations. Discourages and cost of drilling a large number of unscrupulous agents, who instead claimed deep aquifers, are drilled to the nearest quicksand. Accordingly, it is silted for two seasons. A clearing is as well as expensive and boring. But if you’re willing to do well, then lay legally competent contract, which must be specified guarantee period well. Better to drill hole at a site when not built in a house and other buildings, but you already know where they are located.
Here, much depends on soil type, proximity to groundwater, plot sizes, as well as equipment used in the device septic tanks. Better to refer to specialists. If you hire an organization, it is very important to make a contract for the works. The contract required, to register the dates of works, artists and penalties. Otherwise, if you “pop” capacity of waste due to improper mounting, it will not ask anyone.
No device engineering structures is difficult to imagine a modern suburban area. But to build or not to build these structures it’s up to you to decide.

Types Of Drilled Wells For Water

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

One of the most effective ways of definition of depth of ground water and its laying is exploratory drilling. In fact, this requires appropriate technology, and therefore it is recommended to apply with this complicated task to professionals who will quickly set the most suitable place for a well in your area. By the way, at exploratory drilling you have a chance to test water from future wells. Ideally, drinking water must be clean, and it should have no smell. To ensure this, it is usually sent for analysis in the near laboratory. If the acquired water has some contaminants or odors (in acceptable, of course, limits), then after the analysis of water you must make a decision on its after-treatment system. Filters are now sold in sets and equipment selection and installation of tertiary treatment should not cause great problems. The most well drilling and resettlement of the hole, of course, has to be done by specialists.
The fact that drilling is a simple process just seems at first glance. Geology of ground is everywhere various and water lays at different depths, and these local features need to know and consider when working. Incorrectly drilled well can not only be expected to bring water, but it also can cause irreversible effects. For example, you can dewater wells of neighbors, then they will appeal to you with quite reasonable and quite serious claim. Wells fall into two basic types:
“Sand” wells. With their help water is got in the first aquifer – sand. Usually the depth of such wells ranges from 10 to 35 meters (drilling of this type may not in all areas). Since this layer receive water without impurities dissolved iron and moderate rigidity. Pros: relatively low cost of the well of this type. Cons: brevity, silting, the need for a good weekly charge, small amount of water.
Artesian well (under the name of the French province of Burgundy). They are usually drilled to a deep limestone aquifers. Because there are places where no one or more layers of limestone, such wells in turn is divided into three types according to depth aquifer – well first, second and third aquifers. Why such deep wells? The deeper is the well – the more likely is the lack of unwanted impurities in the water.
Pros: Huge amount of water never ends. Does not require maintenance. It does not silts and dry. Does not require installation of filter (as in “Sand” hole). There is an ability to use one well for a few houses.
Cons: high content of dissolved iron and increased hardness, which subsequently can be removed with special filters. Relatively high cost of wells and equipment during the process of drilling.

No doubt water has an important place in our lives. In many cases people want to have an independent or additional water supply source. Basic Types Of Wells For Water Well Drilling

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Movement of groundwater
Movement of water in the aquifer or so-called filtering has place in small pores and cracks of rocks. Private jets are moving uniformly, without breaking a continuous stream with sluggish parallel to one another.
This movement of underground water prevails in natural conditions and is called laminar. Law of laminar motion is formulated as follows. Consumption (or quantity) of water, filtered through a certain area (cross section) of rock is proportional to that area, pressure and inversely proportional to the length of filtration path on this section of stream.
Types of wells
Drilled wells are cylindrical mines with large depth (up to 5 km and more) and with relatively small diameter. The depth of wells for water ranges from 10 to 1000 m and more; most common depth of the wells is 100-150 m, rarely – 200-300 m. Only in separate, relatively small areas of the country on the water depth reaches 800-1000 m.
For water extraction there is drilled a single well or group of wells. Therefore, all water withdrawals of groundwater are divided into group and single.
Underground group water intake consisting of several concurrent wells located at that distance at which they interact or may interact in certain conditions of the mode of operation.
Single underground water intake hole and a group of wells are outside the possible interaction or located although at a short distance from each other, but work at different times and therefore do not interact (in turn is only one hole, and the last – back).
In areas of large withdrawals and in neglected areas it is worth o conduct exploratory drilling and experimental works. In areas with well-studied hydro geological conditions in areas of perspective regarding the quantity and quality of groundwater for the projected group, it is appropriate, without the prior research to begin immediately operational survey boreholes of large diameter. Once they fulfill their purpose well – exploration and aquifer tests, they will be equipped with water lifts and turned into a permanent water source.
Single hole for water is drilled usually without prior survey. Therefore, this original and important work as survey and investigation in this case must be combined with the creation of engineering facilities.
Operational survey there is called a well, construction of which, including water lifts part of equipment is designed for project performance. At positive results of these tests pass well is transferred to constant operation.
Survey well usually turns out to be a well of lightweight construction and relatively small diameter, is equipped with a temporary filter and is designed to test the previous section and aquifer. Exploration wells are usually drilled so that if necessary you can extract and filter casing.

Water Well Drilling – Choosing A Company

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Water consumption worldwide is growing every day. Quantity of fresh water is relatively small and fresh water is placed unevenly around the globe. Most of it, about 85% water stored in glaciers. Minority, whose reserves exceed 1% of world reserves, is accumulated in rivers and lakes. And only about 14% of drinking water is presented by groundwater, which is also split by location at the depth and by quality.
High quality of water which is obtained from underground aquifers is the basis of life and one of the many important factors which is producing a great impact at the health of every person. The quality of drinking water which is extracted from aquifers depends not only on physical and chemical properties of mineral species, but also on proper construction of well for each individual horizon.
Nowadays, when the environmental indicators of environmental degradation and with it the quality of drinking water is increasingly becoming a question of artesian water of high quality is arising for large enterprises and owners of small suburban houses.
Project wells is based on data engineering – geological researches and inseparably connected with it. At design of the well there are used state cadastral maps of geological structure of land in defined areas.
Also companies with long experience of conducting of drilling operations use their own archival data on which calculations are performed on the use of materials and then they set recommendations to the technological process of drilling. According to initial data of the project is determined and then the cost of the works is calculated.
Very often modern companies are working on water well drilling with casing strings fastening pipes and their cementation. Thus isolation of penetration of surface water in the horizon of selection of water is affecting the conservation of quality of fresh water.
Design of wells for water running in order to optimize material costs on the construction of artesian wells and thus do not impact on the environment. In the first study is targeted at the construction of artesian wells. Maybe it will supply technical enterprise or water used in food, or for houses, in any case must meet state water quality standards.
Design of water wells is performed with reference to a territorial area, because in different places depth aquifers and water quality are different. Therefore, to perform the same tasks on the construction of well, there can be used different amounts of materials. Pumping equipment is selected individually, taking into account the customer’s requirements and options of well.
So, first of all you have to decide what for you need this well, then you have to calculate the average water consumption and then you should apply to the specialists which will do the rest.

Water Well Drilling – The Base

Friday, April 9th, 2010

One of the main problems which is facing the owners of town houses and garden plots is water. In most cases when the centralized water supply is impossible, the only solution is its own well. In different parts the depth of groundwater, the quality varied considerably, so, depending on these factors, you have to choose one or the other way of drilling wells.
Wells are drilled in areas where is a need for water supply, while there is no system of centralized water supply. These can be towns, located far outside the cities, garden partnership or country houses, cottages, as well as cases where laying system of centralized water supply does not make economic sense.
To organize the supply of several objects bore one or several wells, a result obtained by both single and group intakes.
You have first to perform exploratory drilling to determine the amount of work and the depth of the groundwater at the site if a water well drilling is carried out on new unknown areas,. If earlier there were already similar work, you can immediately begin drilling production wells, using the available information.
This primarily concerns the type of wells. If you need a hole only for the summer season to water the flower-beds, the sand-hole is the best option. However, be prepared for the fact that, firstly, the quality of water in it would not be better, as the aquifer from which it draws water, close enough to the earth’s surface, so the chances are that it will get different feces, chemicals. Secondly, remember that, as the use of wells will be irregular, then be prepared for what you will with the coming of spring, may have to solve the problem of siltation of wells.
If, having completed drilling of wells for water, you offer to place a water supply system at depth, eg 6-8 meters or deeper, claiming that the way you protect your pipes from freezing, you know that the limit of frozen soil is only 2 meters. No need to pack a water supply system in great depth. The only one who might benefit from this – drilling, because you have to pay considerably more for the arrangement of the water supply system at greater depths.
Choosing the pumping equipment, you have to remember that in addition to the basic parameters of water, which should provide a pump and its components shall be made of stainless steel. This will allow him to serve much longer than the usual pump.
Following the above recommendations, you will not only save money on drilling wells, but also to create a comfortable environment for living. The reason for it is that water from the well is better than the water from the public supply system.

No doubt water has an important place in our lives. In many cases people would like to have an independent or additional water supply source. Cleaning Of Polluted Drilled Wells

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

How much water a day does an average man consume? Not only inside, but also outwardly: for hygienic purposes, for washing, cooking. Let us say at once: he needs a lot of water. Two hundred to three hundred liters at least. And for a country house with a family of three to five people (add watering lawns, lawns, pool and fountain) The final figure could rise to four or five tons. Daily! That being the case even three wells will not be able to quench the thirst of modern cottage. Here reluctant to think about their own well. But not simple, sandy. An artesian. To the water was uninterrupted and good quality. That means we need to drill.
But sometimes well is silted, so what to do?
It is often asked – what to do – there is no water in the well?
This problem occurs most often in two cases: after a long (sometimes years) break in service well, and as a result of intensive water withdrawals from the weak seams, when there are new wells, and water was not enough.
Can I restore the productivity of wells? In the second case it makes sense to drill a new well – on the limestone, where reserves of fresh water. In the first case, the reason lies in the sedimentation wells, ie bottom hole stop access of water into the well. There are ways of revival of these wells. Usually it – pumping pressurized stream of water (eg from a fire engine), in sandy wells that often helps.
Such problems usually take place with sand wells, however they are possible in the limestone. To restore the well conducted series of consecutive operations:
well cleanup
pumping water under pressure
flushing with special agents
hydraulic shock
Prior to the repairs there is performed study of the production of casing with movie borehole to identify related problems and plan activities. Then clean the wells of accumulated debris. However, the main reason lies in the silted water intake of the well.
From washing machines hoses to the well there is fed powerful jet of air-water mixture, which washes away the accumulated sand from the bottom as well, and cleans the bottom hole zone – ie voids in the porous rock around the filter of the column, this contributes to the phenomenon of cavitations. Pressure of 10-15 atm, makes it quite effectively to initiate the flow of water.
If necessary, people often use special washing agents. As an extreme method is the method of hydraulic impact, which, however, for the old wells with inhomogeneously corroded pipes is rather dangerous: the integrity of the column can be compromised. Repair in this manner is rather delicate: all equipment (including car wash) is located in a small trailer, travel techniques on land are not required, and the pressure in the well is fed by hoses.

Questions And Answers On Water Well Drilling

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

The cost of drilling of wells depends on the price of the metal casing (the last time there was a great jump in prices on the stock exchange). Casing is dependent on the depth of the well and planned water consumption (a more powerful pump has large dimensions). Drilling of meter of artesian wells is expensive because the more powerful technique is applied for performance of this operation.
Why do some price of some companies is less.
1. Often such companies get old pipes.
2. Also there are used anodized pipes. Due to the anti-corrosion coating thickness of the pipe can be reduced by drilling; through savings of metal will be greater. Such companies often do not take into account the health of the customer, who after a while begins to consume the water harmful zinc compounds. Furthermore, in acid subsoil water column will break down faster.
3. Some companies set point in the agreement for installation of only their equipment. In this part of their budget they will take the rest.
4. Small warranty.
Do I need a license for subsoil use right?
For drilling of shallow wells in the sand it is not needed, as for the borehole. For drilling of artesian well you need it. But some companies issue two passports. This is, of course, wrong. For industrial wells there is required license for use of natural resources. Making of license can take up to six months.
And if there is no water, what is going to happen?
In these cases we regard this drilled well as exploratory and the owner of the site gets back fifty percent of the fee which he has paid for the whole drilling of well.
Repair of artesian wells – complex, high-tech process, there are engaged specialized firms.
Can I arrange a well in the house?
Yes you can, but shallow. There is a small-sized rigs can drill a hole in the basement of the house – if the ceiling is not less than 2 m. An interesting alternative – abyssinian well. However, a serious hole in the basement have not, even if the house is not built yet, because maintenance and repair (pump replacement, preventive maintenance, etc.) requires the use of large drilling rigs, whose access to the basement of the house is impossible.
Instead of conclusion
Drilling of wells is a hard process and it has to become a primary step in construction. It is better to end works on order to avoid repairing of everything after drillers accomplish operations and take all the drilling equipment from your site, besides it will provide an opportunity to feel as the owner property before the construction of the fence and preliminary works and preliminary works.

Water Well Drilling – Peculiarities Of The Process

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

For household and drinking needs there is used underground water, which is taken from various wells. Choosing a vertical intake should be made taking into account the depth of the aquifers and the conditions of their feed. The land must be in favorable sanitary conditions, precluding the possibility of contamination of groundwater used as household. The use of underground water for drinking and household needs to be agreed with the specialized bodies.
Well is placed on the basis of geologic and hydraulic conditions and other natural features of the area. In aquifer at a depth of 8 m there are drilling tube wells, shallow, and at the horizon of water over 8 m (up to 100 m and over) there are wells ofdeep foundation.
Well drilling
Drilling of is a complicated and time-consuming process, and therefore more appropriate to use the services of specialists.
Vertical intakes satisfied by drilling holes in the ground, the walls of which are fixed casing steel pipes. At the penetration of hole, the diameter of casing decrease. Concentric gaps between the individual casing are sealed (bridging) with cement mortar. In the rocky soil of this is not required.
Above the top water well there is constructed brick, concrete or reinforced concrete chamber. The small tube-wells, also known as Abyssinian, may be individual and the general public, and deep (artesian wells), as a rule, the general public. At the bottom of the well there is set a filter which consists of over filtering part, water intake (filter) and settling parts. Filters can be perforated, slotted, mesh, wire, or gravel.
Depending on the desired flow rate and power of the aquifer there are set one or more wells, placed perpendicular to the direction of flow of groundwater. Equipment of tube-wells shall authorized by special bodies. Thus, the material should be resistant to chemical corrosion, have mechanical strength and in the process of exploitation well should not hide the sand. The minimum inner diameter of the filter should be not less than 100 mm. If groundwater is not protected from contamination from the soil surface, the working part of the filter should be located in the middle and lower parts of the aquifer.
The type of filter and its design is chosen depending on the aquifer rocks in the area for drilling. If the soil is an unstable rock (unconsolidated, detritus, gravel) with a predominance of particles from 2 to 10 cm, then there are used tubular filters with circular or slotted perforations. When gravel soil, gravel and coarse sand with particles from 1 to 10 mm in surface, water intake is made of a wire coil made of stainless steel or pressed steel sheet. In sandy soils with a particle size from 0,25 to 0,5 mm there is used pipe filters to smooth mesh netting or lace as well as single-layer gravel shortcrust. Tubular steel filters are applied at any depth.

Well Drillinf – Some Asked Questions

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Is there life on Mars or is there no life on Mars – Science does not know, but …
According to radar there is- water on Mars: there were assumed large amounts of water ice near (2-3 km) from the surface in the vicinity of the South Pole planet.
It only remains to drill a well…
How to find water on site?
Indirect signs of proximity to water – more dark and bright color of grass, marsh vegetation, but it only speaks of subsoil waters. The color of grass, however, may depend on the presence of fertilizer or trace elements of different composition of the soil in this sector. Of the more “subtle signs – blackly winds over the damp place, the trees bend their branches” to the water. “Frame or willow / hazel twig with biolocation and dowsers – it needs a strong optimism and strong belief in this very biolocation …
If it is a sandy well, you have to find out whether the neighbors have wells. If yes, you have to drill without any doubt. But the probability of 100% can be never expected. In the limestone water is almost everywhere, the only question in depth and seam thickness.
Manual drilling – is it possible to do everything myself?
Typically, drillers, which are offering manual drilling, in fact, use compact drilling rigs and accessories. Purely as manual drilling – is hard physical labor with bailer to screwed rods, which at the sinking must be constantly raised and released from the soil. The rotation of the tool is manual.
As for drilling wells in their area on their own – if there is enough enthusiasm and their equipment – yes, you can. But manual drilling is a hard job and if you meet boulder, manual drilling will not help.
Price for meter of drilling wells by hand, which is offered by experts, is much higher than the machine, because although in this case and used machinery, the share of heavy manual labor is sufficiently large. Manual drilling is justified where the drilling machine is impossible.
Is it possible to construct sandy well inside the house?
The well can be done if there is enough space: you will pull the pump, in an open place it is better to do it, though winter is better to work indoors, but still – spacious: hose Cable and cable will mess…
But the repair of well will be virtually impossible. However, if it is followed (continuing to operate) and if the water layer is powerful enough – it can work for a long time. And thus you will save on the pipeline. So – there are options and it is up to you to choose …

Drilling – What Is Worth To Know About The Process

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Drilling – the process of building a mine working of cylindrical shape – well or shaft – by breaking rocks on bottom, the drilling is carried out usually in the earth’s crust, at least in artificial materials (concrete, asphalt, etc.). In some cases, the drilling process involves fixing of the walls of wells (usually deep) by casing with injection of liquid cenment in the annular gap between the pipe and the walls of wells.
Scope of drilling is multilateral: the search and exploration for minerals, study the properties of rocks; extraction of liquid, gaseous and solid (leaching and melting) of minerals through the production wells, production blasting operations; extraction of solid minerals, artificial rocks fixing (freezing, bituminization, cementation, etc.), drainage of flooded mineral deposits and wetland areas; opening deposits, laying of underground communications: the construction of pile foundations, etc.
Classification methods of drilling. By the nature of the destruction of rocks, used drilling methods are divided into: motor – drilling tool directly on the rock, destroying of it, and non-mechanical – fracture occurs without any direct contact with the rock source of influence on it (thermal, explosive, etc.). Mechanical methods of drilling are divided into rotational and percussion (and rotationally-drums and percussion-rotary).
And now let’s turn to water layers. If the uncovered aquifer before it fractured, but robust species, it is not fixed pipes. When destroyed rocks aquifer fixed perforated pipes. If the aquifer is represented by loose rocks there are set filters in the well. Then there is passing of water-bearing sand and then there is put Filtering column. After installing the filter against the aquifer, the casing is lifted.
And now let’s turn to water layers. Before the opening of the aquifer the well casing is fixed. Then at the wellhead is installed headroom, allowing the mouth to block and regulate the flow rate wells. To increase the flow of water into the well, aquifer is represented by rock fractured rocks can be made blasting, as well as hydrochloric acid treatment of the carbonate rocks. Removing of the casing and well abandonment is often a labor-intensive operations. Pipes include: reciprocating columns, ie columns in tension pulleys with a sharp its release; lights-out, ie, the high tension string through pulleys with simultaneous blows to the head of the shock rod inserted in the upper part of the casing;.
When removing the tube in difficult geological conditions in order to shift the column from the floor, there are used hydraulic jacks. Removing of the lights-out pipes is done in intervals, formed by fracturing and gravel-pebble layers and at stagnant columns.
After removing the pipe exploration well, depending on the technical conditions for drilling, it is worth to pour cement or just fall with layer. Then on the well there is set post with the number of wells, the tunneling and the name of the organization that conducted the work.

Water Well Drilling – Questions And Answers

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

What are the wells?
For intakes there are two types of wells: Filter (up to 35 meters – well in the sand “) and deep (up to 100 m or more -” well on limestone), they are sometimes called “artesian wells,”(named after the French province of Artois, where such wells were drilled first).
Purifying (sandy) wells drilled to the nearest aquifer, which is laid in sandy soils and their depth is usually 20-30 m. The well consists of casing pipes with a diameter of 127-133 mm and filter. The discharge of these wells is up to 1 m3. Drilling for water is made quickly enough – within one to two business days.
However, these wells have a tendency to silting, and the life of such wells depends on the capacity and the aquifer, and the intensity of its use: the more you use the borehole, the longer it is used (in practice 15 years, more often – 5-8 years) .
The deep (artesian) wells (in limestone) are drilled to the aquifer that lies in the limestone at depths of 20-200 m, and are distinguished not only by its depth and capacity (up to 100 m3 / h), but the complexity of drilling. These wells are drilled usually of larger diameter (159-324 mm) and greater depth than the “hole in the sand.” This is due to and a large number of casing strings and the higher cost of drilling, because price per meter of drilling wells depends on the diameter of the casing and hence its value. Duration of drilling increases to 5 or more days depending on species and depth. Price of wells in the limestone is higher but the service life of these wells for much longer – 50 years or more as a filter in these wells is very water-bearing rock (limestone) and siltation does not occur.
Water well drilling – why some companies are cheaper…
1. There remained the old supply pipes (not for long). 2. Apply light galvanized pipes. Due to the anti-corrosion coating thickness of the pipe can be reduced, it will be much cheaper. It does not take into account the health of the customer, who after some time starts to consume water-zinc compounds (or cyanide), among which the most famous potassium cyanide. 3. Some companies put a prerequisite to install their equipment or arrangement of wells. In this part of their budget, they take. 4. Short warranty term.
Do we need a license?
For artesian wells – yes. But some firms proceed as follows: issuing two passports, one for the owner, the other – for inspection bodies. This is, of course, wrong. For industrial wells it is certainly needed.
And if the water is not going to appear?
In exceptional cases, when drilling of shallow wells in the specified location with no water, or it is not enough – well is regarded as exploratory, and is charged only 50% of contract value.

What Is Better – To Drill A Well Or To Dig A Well? Types Of Water

Monday, March 29th, 2010

What is better – to drill a well or to dig a well?
Even an experienced specialist in digging of wells or drilling of wells will not immediately answer this question.
For a quick response it is necessary to know not only the name of the settlement and the availability of near-dug wells and drilled wells. You need to have more and specific information about the aquifer sediments and have great experience of digging wells for water or drilling wells. There is still an important point: if you can and drill a well, and dig a well at the same time, but the company only digging wells, then it will recommend to dig a well with clean blue water, and bring a lot of arguments in its favor, and the company that makes only drilling water, will recommend to borehole. Sometimes said that the water from the wells must be constantly pumped out, otherwise the water will stagnate and swim, and that well is the cheapest way to water.
Digging of wells may be cheaper if it is a shallow dug well and if it has water. Well, if the well is curved, the rings had gone, there is no water, becomes more expensive, in this case you have to dig the well again in another place.
Dug or drilled wells? There is no difference, if only the water was clean and the customer was satisfied.
All questions on digging of wells are removed by exploratory drilling – survey. Upon completion of the exploration drilling there is composed lithological column with drawing on it of all the sediment of the ground. In the column there can be determined whether is the water in the well, to dig or not to dig a well and make recommendations on construction. Exploration of water and soil is like medical tests.
Wells and wells are fed by upper water, groundwater and artesian water.
Non-pressure, upper water it’s like a puddle, it is usually dry in the heat and freezing, if the impermeable horizon is far away, the surface water is too deep, in which case the wells are filled with water at any time of year. Upper water exists due to rain and is heavily dependent on them. Such water is often dirty and diggers try to keep it from falling into the well, but it is rarely obtained.
Groundwater (nonpressure water) is used to water gardens and has a higher quality, so experts tend to put it is this water into the borehole or well.
Artesian water (pressurized water) – is clamped by two water-impermeable layers. When digging a well or digging a well such water rises sharply on the well or wells and stops at a certain level, which determine the type of pumping equipment, which will be used. In this regard, artesian wells are called pressurized.

Drilling Of Water Wells – Questions And Answers

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

What is included in the cost of drilling of wells?
It includes – how to get to the working site, drilling, well casing, casing pipe, pumping up visually clean water.
Some companies include the chemical analysis in the cost of drilling wells … Chemical analysis can be included in drilling of a borehole, but it will not give accurate and complete picture, because at the process of drilling in the hole there will still be imported water which is used in the process of drilling. Water sampling for analysis should be made within three weeks of operation, when the composition of the water has completely stabilized, ie better if the tests will be performed at the construction, because at their results there will be selected equipment for water purification.
At what distance from home is it worth to drill a well?
No closer than 3 meters to home.
What is the “arrangement”? For year-round use of water construction of wells has to be finished with recessed caisson for multigrade maintenance of pumping equipment. From the caisson at a depth of 1 m the pipeline is laid in the house. There are mounted automatic facilities for the permanent operation of the pump and filters for water purification of the solids from the well.
Why manual drilling is cheaper?
The cost of drilling wells depends on the price of the material of casing (most recently been a sharp jump in prices on the stock exchange). Casing is dependent on the depth of the well and planned water consumption (a more powerful pump has large dimensions). Drilling of artesian wells is more expensive because the technology is applied.
Do I need a license?
For the drilling of artesian wells – sure, you need.
And if the water is absent, what is going to happen?
In this case the drilling company must return the money (this item should be in the contract). In the practice of good companies it could not be as thorough professionals know the geological cross-section area in which work.
Can I clean the silted shallow well?
Yes you can, repair requires special tools, there is a recovery method by washing of filter in the bottom of the wells with pressurized water, the well is pumped, fine particles are washed from the filter, water flow is resumed. Repair of artesian wells – complex, high-tech process, expensive and, moreover, causing tremendous damage to the landscape area.
Can I arrange a hole in the house?
Drilling of wells is best to begin before to build a house, immediately after marking the site. This will save a lot of effort and resources to restore the fence and the lawn after arrival, drillers, builders will provide drinking and industrial water, will provide an opportunity to feel the owner of the property before the construction of the fence.

Types Of Wells Which Could Be Drilled

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

There are two types of wells.
The first type of wells is the well, which is supplying water from the sand aquifer. Depth of laying of aquifers is about 20-30 meters. They represent reservoir lenses which are placed vertically one above another. The amount of water that accumulates in them depends on the capacity of water-bearing lenses, as well as on the seasonal rainfall.
Unfortunately, very rarely in almost all the regions we can find a place where you can get water in the quantities required for normal water supply out of this hole. Moreover, it is likely that after drilling of this horizon in general there may not be water or, even less pleasant, it can end in a month after the start of operation of well.
But even if you do not face such surprises, there is the danger of siltation of well, if you will not use it constantly. Also, due to the fact that the water-bearing sand horizons are located at shallow depth, there is a hazard of contamination by, for example, water from septic tanks, or accidentally broken the battery and because of this hole usually gets only one-year warranty.
Water from the sandy horizons, which is also called the technical, is quite suitable for irrigation of your plot, it is also possible to drink such water, but only after it is pre-filtered. This type of well can recommend for estate out of town, and in those rare cases when it is determined that quantity the water will be sufficient to cover all the needs at home.
If you want your cottage or villa have guaranteed an uninterrupted water supply for a dozen years, that wells could provide any necessary amount of water, in this case you need to extract it from the lower aquifer. The second type of wells is limestone.
This well will ensure that in any place, wherever is your house, no matter what size it was, how many pools it would not have, it will be provided with any necessary amount of water – one such well can supply a whole village with fresh water.
Limestone aquifer, which is also called artesian, is already an underground sea. To the favor of this type of water supply says statistics which claims that a lot of cities get water supply exclusively from this source.
Aquifer is a limestone rock in which there are cracks and breaches, along which water flows, it is also filled with numerous lenses of natural origin. Depth of artesian horizons in different regions is uneven. In the one direction it could reach 80-200 meters, in another – nearly 60-90, and in some areas limestone horizon begins at a depth of 30-60 meters.

No doubt water has a significant place in our lives. In many cases people would like to have an independent or additional water supply source. Dug Well Or Drilled Well

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

Water takes a special place among the natural resources of the Earth – it is indispensable. Water is essential at all times and everywhere there is life. For man not only the number of drinking water, but also its quality are the most important issues. In order to avoid the danger that may conceal poor quality water, Europe has established standards for drinking water, defining its main qualities – color, taste and bacterial composition. Healthy and tasty water is a true gift of the Earth.
Underground water, which are taken from various wells are used as household and drinking water. Selection of the type of vertical water intake should be made with taking to account the depth of the aquifers and the conditions of their supply. The site must be in favorable sanitary conditions, which are precluding the possibility of contamination of underground water by household and industrial waste water or water with high mineral content, gas saturation and harmful components.
In addition, the site under which there is the well should not be subjected to erosion, landslides and other types of deformations which can lead to the destruction of the structure. The use of underground water for drinking and household needs has to be agreed with the bodies of sanitary-epidemiological service. Well is being located on the base of geologic and hydraulic conditions and other natural features of the site.
If the aquifer is at a depth of up to 8 m, there will do drilling of shallow tube wells, and at the horizon of water over 8 m (up to 100 m and more) – wells with deep foundation.
The advantages of drilling over the digging of wells:
1. The well is more hygienic.
2. Drilling of wells of 35m takes 1-2 days, and manhole rings during this time can be dug only 4.
3. Well takes up less space on the site than a well.
4. Well is not dangerous for children in order to fall in.
5. At the same depth of the drilled well costs less than a dug well.
6. No prior survey for search of water, drilling of well is a survey.
The advantages of dug well over drilled well:
1. Well can be dug to a 3 meters and there will be water and drilling at this depth will do nothing, level of water is low and it will be pumped for 1 minute.
2. Dug well you can clean by yourself and the drilled well requires specialists.
3. The dug well has a large reserve supply of water and drilled well hasn’t such.
4. Costs for search are lower than for drilled well well.
5. Drilled well depends on pumping equipment and electricity, and you can get water from the dug well with the help of bucket.

No doubt water has a significant place in our lives. In many cases people would like to have an independent or additional water supply source. Some Data On Well Drilling

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Drilling of water wells is a process that is directly related to the hydrogeological conditions of each particular area or site where the drilling has to be performed. Depth of the groundwaters as well as their quality in different areas vary considerably, for this reason methods of drilling of wells should be selected with taking into account all these factors. Drilling on water is carried out by using of specialized drilling rigs.
Among all the natural resources of the Earth’s water has a special place. Water – the source of life on our planet, it is necessary always and everywhere. But despite the fact that most of the earth’s surface occupied by the seas and oceans, quality of water in all times was not sufficient. Especially when it comes to quality of drinking water!
For someone the quality of water which he uses is very important because it depends on his health. Perhaps the main issue that worries the owners of country houses and suburban areas, it is smooth and high quality water supply. The most convenient and common way of obtaining high-quality drinking water for residents of suburban houses is drilling of well for personal use.
Drilling of wells is an ideal solution for water gardeners and amateur gardeners. Forever thing of the past concerns about the delivery of water to the plot, about saving precious water and creating water reserves for future use. Suffice it to just push a button. For the suburban area of proposed drilling of a shallow, usually 20-30 m, filter well in the nearest aquifer, which I located in sandy soils. Drilling a borehole can be done very quickly, within a few working days.
“Artesian well” – a deep well, which is usually drilled to artesian limestone aquifer (depending on the terrain it can lie at different depths from 30 to 200 meters). Water well drilling is the most expensive source of water, but water well drilling (drilling of water wells) is the only alternative for the efficient and safe supply of country houses and industrial facilities, since water is the most pure. The well, drilled to a greater depth, can work a lot of years (about 80), it is not silted, has high productivity, has high protection from unwanted impurities. And while such wells do not require filters and are much longer – many tens of years.
Taking of well after its drilling of wells you must check the depth of wells drilled on the instrument to take water from the well (it should be clean), check for a set of documents (passport well with its performance and warranty card). It is done in order to check the quality of works and in order to avoid frauds on the part of drilling company.

No doubt water has an important place in our lives. In many cases people would like to have an independent or additional water supply source. Advices To Choose The Well Drilling Company

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Water well drilling is a very responsible process which requires detailed choice of company, which is specialized on giving of such services.
It is necessary figure out what you exactly want to see as a result of the performed works. If the owner of the house poorly imagines the water supply of the house, it is a great chance that unfair companies (and such are in our time) will force him to purchase an expensive equipment explaining it by the thing that they understand similar things better.
During a search for advise in the Internet you have to examine every suggestion very attentively, call on the site of every company (its presence – undoubted plus) and you should not be persuaded by promises “pump as a gift”, ” winter discounts”, etc.
Artificial lowering of prices on the drilling with an obligatory condition on a purchase and mounting of equipment for a well specifically in this firm in most cases straightly depend on the cost of materials. As you understand, every company has its own prices;
Second minus of low rates on water well drilling is the use notoriously low-quality or delivery of more cheap material instead of the expensive one (for example, pipes of less diameter then you need, in fact such pipes will give less of water initially, and it means that you can get a cheap pump at the price of the expensive one). Also it is obligatory – you must control the material of the pipes, which will be delivered by drillers to your site.
Many companies are lowering by prices because they do not work for permission on drilling works of borings works in administration of your city/district.
Far not all companies upon termination of borings works give out a passport of well with its registered number, technical descriptions and necessary recommendations.
It is more comfortable to drill wells in summer or winter (thus, you will have water in “hot time”, for drillers it is more comfortable deliver all the equipment to the site). Thus, “seasonal discounts” however are not existing, companies are promoting prices on drilling works only because of the row of such reasons, as an increase of prices on fuel and enhancement of prices on the purchase of necessary equipment, etc. As you understand, all these terms do not quite depend on time of year.
Some companies compensate low prices on drilling by the depth of well, accordingly multiplying it. So, quality of water will be worsened. The most optimum variant for you will be simply…being guests to the next-door neighbors at the place of your residence. Take interest in the depth of well, it must not substantially differ from the depth of your well.
It’s up to you to make further decisions.

No doubt water has an important place in our lives. In many cases people want to have an independent or additional water supply source. How To Choose The Proper Contractor For Well Drilling

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Everyone knows that water is the source of life. Drilling of boreholes for water extraction was known in the ancient world. In those days drilling on water was carried by sharp metal or wooden tool. However, the prototypes of modern drilling rigs have appeared only at the beginning of the XIX century, with the advent of the industrial era. More than two centuries water well drilling is in demand in any civilized country in the world.
The increase in population and industry led to an increase in the rate of drilling of wells and to increase of consumption of drinking water, and as a result in highly contaminated surface water. Today the shortage of proper drinking water is particularly acute in large cities, in which man-made pollution has become truly catastrophic. But in metropolitan areas this problem is solved most efficiently because quantity of the specialized companies and services is much bigger than in the regional centers. A wide range of services and experience of professionals conducting drilling of water will easily cope with any question of water supply, water purification, sewage and effluent treatment.
Drilling is carried out on individual projects and because of the hydrogeological conditions within the studied territory it can be extremely diverse. Construction and the depth of water well is determined by the geology, drilling method, the requirements of the operation and the zone of sanitary protection, based on the maximum possible depth of the sole of the aquifer, chosen for water.
Customers who have opted for self-drilling contractor, is advised to consider:
professionalism, knowledge of the subject. Managers on work with clients, but by necessity the main expert on drilling should be able to explain in accessible language the principles and details of the drilling of well;
Availability of drilling and auxiliary equipment, and, most importantly, the “golden fund” of the company – Chartered drill masters, who have experience in the specialty;
knowledge of leading experts of the geological section, the characteristics of occurrence and geochemical composition of groundwater (fast, without hesitation, the answer to the question of model);
to offer a maximum range of certified materials and equipment, conducting their comparative analysis;
integrated approach to work on construction of an autonomous water supply systems, which includes the warranty, or consent of the contractor to drill a well without subsequent resettlement pumping equipment (if desired by the client);
independent contractor – advertising campaign in the media, no items receiving orders or faceless internet sites without addresses, which increase the cost of wells;
warranty and service after sales support facility;
reasonable pricing. A proper company cannot afford dumping of prices – in fact the work of customer service, selection and training of personnel, minimize the risks of seasonal excess, warehouse stock of materials and equipment, renovation and modernization of technology, innovative projects and service quality control require financial support.

No doubt water has a significant place in our lives. In many cases people would like to have an independent or additional water supply source. Review Of History Of Drilling

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Groundwater is acquired mainly by building wells. Wells in their structure can be divided into two groups: mining and drilling (tubular).
Wells is a vertical shaft that extends to the aquifer. Dug wells usually reach a depth of 3 to 15 m. It is hard and costly to dig a well in the shallower surface waters which are contaminated.
Drilling wells usually turn out to be cheaper than mine, but require ample underground aquifers. Drilled well can take water from a depth of more than 30 m. These wells are drilled wells, fixed (lined) metal and at depths of less than 6 m, asbestos, plastic pipes. Tube wells are usually equipped with hand pumps or electric pumps. At the bottom of the well there is usually set filter.
And now let’s turn to history of drilling. Excellent taste of groundwater quality has always attracted people. In order to use the drinking water and where water from the surface underlain by a shallow, there were performed excavations. At more deep-lying people deepened wells and boreholes.
Ancient manuscripts preserved record of wells, boreholes, constructed in Egypt, even in 2000 BC. In our time, all the wells after clearing were used for drinking water.
In Egypt for drilling of wells people used stone chisels, tied to wooden poles, in China – to bamboo. Later they hung on the ropes. Chisel lifted and dropped into the hole, destroying the breed.
In the twelfth century in Europe were built specifically for the first borehole water. In France, one of the wells provided water, which is flowing on the surface in the form of a fountain. These wells subsequently became known as artesian, under the name of the area where the first was built flowing well.
Special development drilling on the water reached in the extraction of salt. Heavily saturated salt groundwater through wells were simply raised to the surface and evaporated. In Russia, such wells were called “pipes”.
In the seventeenth century there was written first written guide on drilling of water wells. It describes the process of drilling and equipment for it.
The extensive development of water drilling was only after 1917. There were large specialized organizations, factories started production of domestic drilling rigs, equipment and tools. It changed the technology of drilling for water, organization of drilling and drilling work. Drill steel hard alloys, shot, and diamonds. People started to apply such methods of drilling wells for water, as a hydrodynamic, hydropercussion, rotary with blowing air, vibration, etc.
Now there are developed and commercially produced improved design filters. Drilling rigs are fully mechanized. Rock drilling largely supplanted by the rotary.
If before 1960 wells for water main method of constructing a water supply for cities and industrial enterprises, but now their main number is drilled for physical persons.

No doubt water has a significant place in our lives. In many cases people would like to have an independent or additional water supply source. Drilling Of Individual Water Wells

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Drilling of individual water wells:
How can be used a country house or cottage without water if you are not able to connect to the centralized water supply? The most convenient and popular option – to order drilling water of water well, which is able to serve for a long time as a reliable source of drinking water. You can, of course, dig a well on your site, but the first version of the water problem is not in a convenient example.
Typically, experts share wells for the personal use of two types: Filter (small) and Artesian (deep). Filter wells drilled to the nearest aquifer, which usually lies in the sands. Drilling of wells under water filter takes a little time (experts cope in one day). In the well casing is installed and there is a special mesh filter. Practice shows that exploitation of filter wells, their flow rate, ie the volume of water is not big. Filtering well can “live” from 5 to 7 years, then it has to be cleared of silt, which means drilling new wells.
Among the shortcomings filter wells specialists point out its brief lifespan, the probability of occurrence of water contamination of the aquifer which is close to the surface. Among the pluses filter well call it a lower cost for drilling, compared with the implementation of artesian wells. In general, the drilling of shallow holes appropriate for country houses, where the water is spent on watering plants and other household needs.
Drilling of boreholes is at a depth of 30 to 130 meters and more. On the surface “dirty” water wells to protect the clay layers, due to which no heavy metals or nitrates, or phenols in the water is not detected. Water well drilling takes 3 or more days. Timing is directly dependent on the type of soil on the site and the depth of the aquifer. Casing for artesian wells can be made of steel and metal-or. Water from artesian wells finished raising manual or electric pumps, different in design and height growth. From the manual widely sucker and piston pumps. The service life of artesian wells is 25 years or more.
Among the merits of artesian wells indicate the possibility of productive use of submersible pumps, constant water level, its purity. Among the shortcomings referred to as the high cost for drilling of wells and the need to obtain permits.
Drilling of wells under water – a problem, the solution of which can be done only team of professionals having expertise and modern equipment: drilling rigs, pumps and so on. Trust of drilling to random workers is related with consequences, because this process requires compliance with specific requirements, such as the use of environmentally friendly durable materials.

No doubt water has a significant place in our lives. In many cases people want to have an independent or alternative water supply source. Talking About Drilling Of Water Well

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Own well is, above all, a convenient and profitable deal. With the development of the construction of cottages, there water which is extracted directly from subsurface horizons becomes especially popular. It requires almost no treatment and, in addition, the user of borehole water to a lesser extent depends on the municipal water supply system. But the most important advantage of borehole water is the fact that it is independent from the level of man-made pollution.
The waters of open reservoirs and groundwater of the upper level are quite suitable for irrigation and household needs. The wells and pipelines from the nearest river will be able to provide all necessary quantity of water for this need. But for swimming and, especially, for drinking and cooking there will be required only clean water. Drilling is the only alternative for the efficient and safe supply of country houses and industrial facilities.
Without a stable water supply it is impossible to live for the modern man. Autonomous water supply at home is divided into external and internal systems. Water House is responsible for the uninterrupted supply of water pressure and at any time of day. And this task is only for a united team of professionals with years of experience and the latest modern equipment.
In the areas where the connection of houses to the centralized water supply network is difficult, water well drilling turns out to be the most convenient option. Chemically unpolluted, unlimited quantities of water from own wells will be able to satisfy household and drinking needs of all residents of the house. Just at the basis of its projected range of water you can make your home independent from the centralized systems.
The company, which guarantees a qualified drilling and long-term trouble-free operation of wells should have the capacity for drilling and operating wells, starting with big ones – for water supply of entire cities and industrial facilities. The specialized companies must have at its disposal a reliable database, which includes hydrogeological maps and data, the water inventory in the region, as well as a mobile laboratory for the express – analysis of produced water. Equipment for drilling and completion of the well have to be composed of means for planting holes and opportunities for the isolation of the aquifers, which take place during drilling to prevent mixing of waters from different geological formations.
At this time there are a large number of devices that can bring almost any initial water quality to a level that meets the most stringent standards. Different types of equipment differ as per the principle of action and for the constructive use. The most widely in recent times are used mechanical, chemical, sorption and membrane methods of purification.

No doubt water has a significant place in our lives. In many cases people would like to have an independent or alternative water supply source. Water Well Drilling – Water Supply Of Private Houses

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

A lot of people are trying to purchase separate house in order to get own area and not to share it with neighbors, which in most cases turn out to be not those people who you would like to see at this position. But sometimes purchase of such property is not such a great and easy deal. The first of the list of the problems is that not all the sites are having public water supply system. For this reason water supply of your house is your own problem. Drilling of borehole for well is the best solution of this problem.
You will spend your time and money if you make a decision to cope with this problem by yourself. That’s why in most of cases it is worth to apply for the services of professional companies who have experience in this area and who will drill proper well and ensure proper servicing of this well.
Usually owners drill wells at any time of the year and there are no limitations in time for drilling. It is always worth to think first if you have decided to drill a well. It is in cases of coming through floating earth the best time of year is winter, so it is worth to talk with the specialists and to have special analysis. The winter and hot summer turn out to be the only proper periods for drilling of such well.
Depth of well in most cases depends on layer of ground water which can be used for water supply. Small depth of well of will bring low-quality and polluted. Water well equipment is also very important in order to avoid contamination of water in well by the melt waters and chemical agents.
Drilling of wells is an excellent mean for water-supply of house. Technologies of drilling allow reception of water from the deepest layers of soil. Wells are of different types depending on geological peculiarities of sites, so it is possible to choose the proper one for you among all the proposed.
Usually owners start drilling wells from the correct choice of site for drilling.
Water on our planet is disposed in layers. There are both the waterproof strengthening of soil and strengthening of soil, which pass water.
We should remember that drilled well means an artesian well. This pumpless well is working due to pressure that is rising up between layers when the water is finding a path to the open air. Now the major part of all the drilled wells is artesian wells. They supply homes with eater of high quality but the only question is – is it worth to spend money and time for this and won’t such household total drilling harm our environment.

No doubt water has a significant place in our lives. In many cases people would like to have an independent or additional water supply source. Drilling A Water Well And Water Layers

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

The correctly organized water-supply provides the permanent supply of clean drinking-water in a house, what is extremely necessary for a health.
Wells are drilled at any time of the year, and there are no temporal limitations for drilling. And when it is possible to dig up a well, it is necessary to think. To dig rings in a winter period – case is really difficult, but there are cases, when in other period it is impossible to conduct works. It is in cases of laying of mines through floating earth. The winter and hot summer is an only period for drilling of such well.
There is expression that nature does not have a bad weather – there are simply unsuitable clothes. The same thing concerns wells. Not in all organizations there is a suitable instrument and equipment for working in winter, specialists morally and physically are not ready to work in a frost. Similarly owners of sites do not want to hear about works in winter. And in winter a nipping frost and after it is the best time for the search of water, because the level of waters is the same, as in a heat. And if there will be water in a frost and heat, then it will be always there.
Drilling of wells begins with the correct choice of place for their drilling. Well-drilling not always expedient because as a rule water layer for normal work is located deeper than water layer which is used for setting of well.
Water on our planet is located in layers. There are both waterproof soils and soils which are passing the water.
Water layers are divided in such types:
Leakage waters are on the first waterproof layer not deeply from a terrene and using of such water for drink is impossible. Leakage waters are the temporal phenomenon. It is nowhere present in hot time, it dries out. There are chemical fertilizers in overhead water, poisonings matters, which are applied against rodents, petrol from cars.
A groundwater is under the first waterproof layer (clay). A thickness of waterproof layer is different and depending on it the quality of water in a well is also different. Chemical composition of water is in a well below the waterproof layer is stable and as a rule, water level is different in not large limits. At dissection of this horizon water in a well can be under pressure and then it freely flows out or beats a fountain.
Artesian water, as a rule, is on a depth of 40 meters and more. Well drilling is characterized by self flowing of water on a terrene. Artesian water is situated horizontally, by layers. Most frequently the upper layer is located at 4-6 meters from surface.

No doubt water has an important place in our lives. In many cases people would like to have an independent or alternative water supply source. Drilled Well – What Is An Arthesian Well

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

The drilled well usually turns out to be artesian, so in this article we will talk about what is an artesian well. An artesian well allows water that has traveled through porous rock from a higher elevation to rise to the surface. This pumpless well seems to defy gravity because the pressure that builds up between layers of rock gets relieved when the water finds a path to the open air. For nearly a thousand years, people have drilled wells to drink this cold, filtered water that doesn’t need to be hauled up from the depths.
An aquifer provides the water source for an artesian well. This is the layer of permeable rock, like limestone or sandstone that absorbs water from an inlet path at high elevation, such as the top of a mountain. The water source might be fed by snowmelt or precipitation.
Porous stone is sandwiched between a top and bottom layer of an impermeable substance, like clay soil or shale rock. This keeps the water pressure high, so that at a point below the entryway of the flow there is enough pressure to bring the water up. Natural springs form in the same way when a gap in the impermeable rock, perhaps triggered by an earthquake, allows the water to rise to the surface.
Artesian wells are found all over the world. Many are found in the US. The Great Artesian Basin, which provides fresh water to inland Australia, is the largest such basin in the world. Thousands of artesian wells have tapped into this aquifer.
Entire cities have relied on giant underground aquifers to provide fresh, cold water when there are no above-ground rivers. In the medieval age monks used a rod with a sharp end, called a bore, to penetrate a layer of impermeable rock and create an artesian well. Their percussive drilling, just hammering on the end of the bore, broke through with sheer human force. The water that rose had percolated through the pores of the rock, so that many contaminants have been filtered out, and it proved safer to drink than standing or river water.
In more recent times, if a town or residency needs water closer to the top of a mountain, they might lie above the line where there is enough pressure to push the water all the way to the surface. In this case, the aquifer can be accessed by drilling a relatively shallow well and then pumping the water up to ground level. Well-drilling has progressed from hammers and bores to machinery that twists a giant drill into the ground. Sometimes, if the pressure is especially strong, because the artesian well is lower in elevation, the water might thrust up like a fountain, and form a geyser.

General Information On Home Water Supply By Wells

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

A home without a water supply is virtually unlivable. The importance of water for everyday living with modern conveniences bears this fact out. The most common supply for a home that is not served by a public system is a drilled well. Wells are extremely important to all societies. In many places wells provide a reliable and ample supply of water for home uses, irrigation, and industries. Where surface water is scarce, such as in deserts, people couldn’t survive and thrive without ground water.
Types of wells
Digging a well by hand is becoming outdated today (would YOU want to do it?). Modern wells are more often drilled by a truck-mounted drill rig. Still, there are many ways to put in a well — here are some of the common methods.
Dug wells
Hacking at the ground with a pick and shovel is one way to dig a well. If the ground is soft and the water table is shallow,then dug wells can work. They are often lined with stones to prevent them from collapsing. They cannot be dug much deeper than the water table — just as you cannot dig a hole very deep when you are at the beach… it keeps filling up with water!
Driven wells
Driven wells are still common today. They are built by driving a small-diameter pipe into soft earth, such as sand or gravel. A screen is usually attached to the bottom of the pipe to filter out sand and other particles. Problems? They can only tap shallow water, and because the source of the water is so close to the surface, contamination from surface pollutants can occur.
Drilled wells
Most modern wells are drilled, which requires a fairly complicated and expensive drill rig. Drill rigs are often mounted on big trucks. They use rotary drill bits that chew away at the rock, percussion bits that smash the rock, or, if the ground is soft, large auger bits. Drilled wells can be drilled more than 1,000 feet deep. Often a pump is placed at the bottom to push water up to the surface. Two broad classes of drilled-well types may be distinguished, based on the type of aquifer which the well is completed in:
- shallow or unconfined wells are completed in the uppermost saturated aquifer at that location (the upper unconfined aquifer); or
- deep or confined wells, which are sunk through an impermeable stratum down into an aquifer which is sandwiched between two impermeable strata. The majority of confined aquifers are classified as artesian because the hydraulic head in a confined well is higher than the level of the top of the aquifer. If the hydraulic head in a confined well is higher than the land surface it is a “flowing” artesian well

Ways To Construct Satisfactory Water Well

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

A water well is much more than a hole in the ground. To prevent groundwater contamination, a well constructor must use proper methods and equipment. Licensed and bonded water-well constructors have the equipment, knowledge, and experience required for proper well construction. For this reason, most states discourage landowners from drilling a well themselves. If a landowner decides to drill, alter, or abandon a well on his own property, he should first consult with the local regulating authorities to become familiar with specific construction requirement for the area.
There are many ways to construct a satisfactory well. The intended use and local geology usually dictate which methods will work in a specific area. Some of the common construction methods include digging, driving, and drilling.
A dug well is built by excavating a hole into a water-bearing zone, lowering a casing into the aquifer, and constructing the seal. Dug wells usually are inexpensive, but are restricted to the near-surface, which may be insufficient to provide ample water quantity of suitable quality. A driven well typically consists of steel point attached to a section of perforated pipe or stiff screen, and sections of solid pipe. After digging or auguring an oversized hole to later accommodate the seal, the well constructor drives the assembly into the earth until the screen or perforations penetrate an aquifer; then he pours the seal. Most wells are constructed with well-drilling equipment. The two main types of drilling machines are the cable tool and the rotary drill.
The cable tool uses a heavy string of tools (bits), dropped repeatedly over the same point, to loosen, fracture and pulverize the earth so that it may then be lifted out of the hole with a bailing bucket. The loosened material and pulverized materials are referred to as drill cuttings. In dry formations, water may be added to the hole to hold the cuttings in suspension so they may be more easily lifted. The bailing bucket is a long cylinder, fitted with a one-way valve at the bottom. The bucket is lowered into the hole, then lifted and drained as the hole is advanced.
Rotary drills use hardened drill bits to cut through the earth. Compressed air, water, or special water-based fluid called drilling mud is used to suspend the cuttings and lift them from the hole. This mud is usually forced down the inside of the drill stem, past the drill bit, where it picks up the cuttings, then up the outside of this drill stem to the land surface. The drilling mud also helps hold the hole open and forms a cake or barrier inside the hole so the fluid and cuttings are forced up the hole rather than into the formation.

Well-drilling Units And The Applied Methods Of Water-well Drilling

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

The necessity of water sources, especially in desert conditions, mandates a system capable of long-term operation without failure. Drilling rigs must be equally functional despite frozen, temperate, or desert conditions because soldiers need water to survive and accomplish their assigned missions. When supporting humanitarian missions, especially following a natural disaster in which potable water is unavailable, both military and civilian personnel depend on these drilling rigs until the emergency ends or damaged utilities become operational.
Generally well-drilling units are combat-service-support assets that are usually at the corps or theater level. The units are tasked to supplement surface-water sources in two instances: when it is unnecessary or too costly to transport volumes of water or when groundwater wells are needed as a logistical backup in case of nuclear, biological, or chemical surface-water contamination by the threat. In addition to drilling wells, the units identify and compile data on surface-water sources, compile data using drilling logs and surveys for drilling-site identification, and restrict access to contaminated or dangerous well sites and seal the holes.
Now let’s have a look at well-drilling methods which are used
Since a variety of geological formations-ranging from hard consolidated rock to soft unconsolidated sediments–may be encountered during well construction, several well-drilling methods have been developed. The most common methods are mud and air rotary drilling and down-hole hammer or percussion drilling.
Mud rotary drilling
This method uses a highly viscous “mud” to float the cuttings from the current drill depth to the top of the borehole. This fluid is recycled by using a series of catch sumps or mud pits and a pumping device to keep a constant flow down the drilling rod, up the hole, and out again. The mud–being based of clays, water, and other materials–also forms a filter-cake layer to provide a seal down the hole. This is the preferred method of well drilling for all the services.
Air rotary drilling
Similar to mud drilling, this method uses air instead of mud and is advantageous when it is inconvenient to use water for drilling. Air rotary drilling requires less time for well development but is more problematic due to its inability to support unstable geology and the frequent need to cool and lubricate the drill bit. Drilling foam may be used to enhance the air’s ability to carry cuttings up and out.
Down-hole hammer or percussion drilling
This method involves crushing the teeth of the drill bit into the soil by impact. Pneumatic or compressed air is the delivery means to carry cuttings up and out. Used in extremely unfavorable conditions, such as extremely hard rock, this type of drilling is also used to drill shallow holes for loading explosives at quarries and other excavations.

Drilling – Hydralic Fracturing

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

This half century-old technology is used in oil and natural gas production. This technique allows oil or natural gas to move more freely from the rock pores where they are trapped to a producing well that can bring the oil or gas to the surface.
Global warming will be the largest single problem confronting our water supplies in the coming years. If you are having water problems with your drilled well today you can expect that they will only get worse in the years to come. Well fracturing can help solve low-producing or dry well problems.
After a well is drilled into a reservoir rock that contains oil, natural gas, and water, every effort is made to maximize the production of oil and gas. One way to improve or maximize the flow of fluids to the well is to connect many pre-existing fractures and flow pathways in the reservoir rock with a larger fracture. This larger, man-made fracture starts at the well and extends out into the reservoir rock for as much as several hundred feet. The man-made or hydraulic fracture is formed when a fluid is pumped down the well at high pressures for short periods of time (hours). The high pressure fluid (usually water with some specialty high viscosity fluid additives) exceeds the rock strength and opens a fracture in the rock. A propping agent, usually sand carried by the high viscosity additives, is pumped into the fractures to keep them from closing when the pumping pressure is released. The high viscosity fluid becomes a lower viscosity fluid after a short period of time. Both the injected water and the now low viscosity fluids travel back through the man-made fracture to the well and up to the surface.
Hydro fracturing is the process of using water under extreme pressure to break away the blockages that are preventing an underground water source from flowing freely into a well. With years of proven success in the oil fields this is not a new technology. What is new within the last 20 years is the application of hydro fracturing within the water well industry. High-pressure machines fracture the underground rock and open up the already existing fissures in the rock allowing water to freely flow into your well.
Modern machines capable of producing thousands of pounds pressure per square inch and pumping hundreds of gallons per minute create extremely high pressures in the well, which increases the likelihood of opening blocked water veins and producing a higher output well. By fracturing an existing drilled well, water flow can be improved even in the hole is considered dry, or has gone dry after many productive years.
Water quality can be improved by isolating the areas where good water is located. For example if salt is found at the bottom of a well, the lower area can be plugged and a fracture created above, where better quality water is located.

Drilling

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Well drilling is known as a hard job and it is really so. Well drilling requires specific equipment. This equipment depends on the required job. Type of required well drilling equipment usually is dependant on the location of the well. The well drilling equipment for needs of miners which are operating in the southern regions is different than for ones utilized in the northern regions. Required depth will also define what drill equipment is required. Equipment of different sizes is designed for drilling for different purposes – from ground water to natural gas and oil.
Not so deep wells can usually be dug out manually in spite of the fact that it is time consuming. Much more efficient and proper solution is utilization of the proper drilling machine. Such a simple issues as the soil influences on question of what drilling equipment is it worth to use. For example, the well drilling equipment for the soil in states like Arizona will depend on the actual location. Soil can be divided into three types – soft, medium and hard. The type of soil determines the required drill so its very important for drilling specialists to define the composition of soil before starting of drilling operations.
It is worth to figure out drilling equipment that you need for performance of this job. The requirements equipment for shallow water well are less strict than that needed to dig for oil. Water wells are usually drilled by means of a top-head rotary, table rotary or cable tool drilling machine. Sometimes there occur such cases that the drilling equipment is installed on a truck or trailer and transported to the operational site. Oil wells are usually vast and they have to be build over the drilling area. Specialized drill equipment is designed for performance of specific job and specialized personnel have to operate this equipment.
The proper facility for operational site is required and no matter what is being drilled. Equipment has to be controlled and serviced by skilled personnel which have passed special trainings. Digging a well consists not only of digging a hole and looking what is there. This process foresees a lot of preliminary research of the geographical area. This research has to be also performed by skilled personnel and its purpose is to save costs by drilling in the area and depth water or oil is expected to be. Knowledge of what to expect in soil conditions is important for insurance that the correct drill equipment is being used. This knowledge of conditions which are expected can save costs, time and sometimes environment and human life. Money and time are saved in knowledge of what to drill, where to drill and how to drill.
