You play better, if your muscles are strong. During tours we do not recommend you any physical activities, because this is a risk to be traumatized before performance. But if there are no performances in the near future, you need physical training.
In this article we will describe some exercises, which you should do for warming up before playing. There are infinitely many variations of these exercises, we will show you the basic idea:
Example 1:
Play sixteenth notes with two hands. Then do the same with your legs. Then try to play it together. Start to play with the speed, which is the most convenient for you, and then increase tempo as far as possible.
Example 2:
Play sixteenth notes by double stroke of each hand. Then play sixteenths by legs as you did it in previous exercise. Then use hands and legs simultaneously.
Begin with the tempo, which is convenient for you, and then drum faster. Pay attention: we begin all exercises with the right hand and right leg, because the majority of drummers are right-handed. Lefthanders should begin all exercises with the left hand. During your exercises try to combine various drums of your drum kit. For example, do all strokes with the right hand on floor tom-tom, and all left-hand strokes on a snare drum. Thanks to this you can find new sounding. The basic idea consists in playing with legs as well as you can do it with hands. Eventual result is rhythmical and high-speed playing with legs.
Remember that it is very important to begin playing of exercises from tempo, with which you can play very accurately, and then increase it. Also during exercises imagine how this will sound in your parties.
Sitting in front of notes and examining almost anything is useful, but, in our opinion, it is very monotonous and uninteresting pastime, which can lead to disappearance of desire to become a cool drummer! Playing any exercises or listening to a song, try to memorize a manner of game, to imagine, how to play it and how it will sound, if you will put this part into your party of a song.
